Enhancing Higher Education Capacity for Sustainable Data Driven Food Systems in INDonesia

Project Details

Description

The project “Enhancing Higher Education Capacity for Sustainable Data Driven Food Systems in INDonesia” – FIND4S (“FIND force”) aims at increasing the capacity of Indonesian HEIs located in Central Java by strengthening the institutional and administrative facilities. Various factors challenge Indonesian universities in implementing innovative degree curricula in sustainable food systems.
The recognition and implementation of novel and innovative programmes will be tackled via significant improvement of food science education by designing new curricula and upgrading existing ones, training academic staff, creating a research centre and equipping laboratories, as well as expanding the network of collaboration with European Higher Education Institutions.
In a first instance, the FIND4S project aims at modernisation of existing Bachelor curricula into food systems and technology oriented programmes in the partner universities in Indonesia, upgrading their level to the desired (accreditation) standard, and paving the way for its graduates to enter into postgraduate studies.
Further, designing a novel and innovative Master degree programme in sustainable food systems aims at integrating sustainability and environmental consciousness into graduate education programme and at aligning with labour market demand. Addressing the challenges, agriculture and food systems are facing, will provide understanding about the threats and indicate possibilities of knowledge transfer to Indonesia by education and research. Big data, quantitative modelling and engineering tools will be used to cope with these challenges at the level of all stakeholders involved, including industry. A well-balanced MSc programme will fulfil an increasing need in the transfer of knowledge, experience and standards to Indonesia, for a greener and more sustainable economy and society, while contributing to the necessary transformation towards social, environmental, and economic sustainable food systems.
