Project Details

Description

Other Institution(s) is an international collaborative research project and network which aims to respond to two shared cross-cutting challenges amongst European art and cultural institutions: to be representative and inclusive in terms of human diversity, and to reduce the environmental impact of artistic and cultural activities, such as mass international exhibitions and mobility programmes. During the first phase of the project, the research team will test methodologies and create a code of conduct cowritten by its members: 4Cs, Nanogaleria and HANGAR (Portugal); The Listening Academy (Norway); Tensta Konsthall (Sweden); the Museum of Impossible Forms (Finland); the Jan van Eyck Academie (The Netherlands). The main goals are: (i) To test and to share innovative, inclusive, and sustainable practices and methodologies of care; (ii) to explore alternatives beyond institutional critique and towards caring practices; (iii) to understand the repetition of hegemonic discourses in order to abolish the idea of a canon and produce new artistic practices.
