Projeto CAR: Cultura-Artes-Religião

Project Details

Description

Project CAR – Cultura-Artes-Religião (Culture-Arts-Religion) aims to think upon and bring to discussion the religious culture, namely of Judeo-Christian tradition, which is expressed in literary and artistic artifacts produced in the Western world, and from which religious meaning emerges and crystallizes as a human, social and cultural phenomenon. Based on an integral conception of knowledge, the project focuses essentially on a critical analysis of the aesthetical experience and the aesthetical creation as well, and is methodologically established in an effective multidisciplinary approach, since it brings together researchers and academics from different geographies and scientific areas, from painting to architecture, from literature to cinema and audiovisual, from visual arts to history and philosophy, among other fields.

Research developed under the scope of Theology (namely, the study of Codes and religious contexts) or Religious Studies (on religious phenomena anchored in the social sciences) do not constitute, thus, the focus, the method, or the fundamental goal of CAR, even though the two areas might interact fruitfully with the scientific field in which the project is grounded.

The project initiated its work in 2019 as Grupo LCR - Literatura, Cinema e Religião (Literature, Cinema and Religion). In 2023, it became Projeto CAR – Cultura-Artes-Religião (Culture-Arts-Religion).
