The Modernisation of the Political System in Portugal, Democracy and Civic Participation

With the aim of stimulating systematic and multidisciplinary research in the areas of political and institutional reform, democracy and civic participation, the Study Center on Peoples and Cultures at the Portuguese Catholic University has created a research programme under the scientific guidance and editorial coordination of Professor André Corrêa d'Almeida of Columbia University in New York.

The main objective of this new research programme was to make a scientific contribution to the development of a reconciliatory ethic in politics capable of overcoming the political and institutional barriers that compromise sustainable development, as well as the legitimate individual and collective aspirations of the Portuguese people.
