A adaptação de Os Maias na televisão brasileira e portuguesa – abordagem comparativa

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

The canonical writer Eça de Queiroz besides being an outstanding personality in the literary world is also an author whose novels have inspired the creation in other universes. In the international televisions prevails the Brazilian interest, especially in recent years, which is justified by the cultural closeness between Portugal and Brazil and by the critical point of view that the novelist addresses to the Portuguese society. If we gave an overview landscape to the titles adapted for television we understand that the masterpiece The Maias (1888) is a common legacy between the two nations. It is our intention in this paper to establish a comparative approach to the Brazilian adaptation of The Maias (Globo TV, 2001) and the Portuguese television version of the same novel (RTP1, 2003) in order to analyze not only the transmutation strategies, but also the results of two different proposals which had an identical basis. At the same time we aim to comprehend the reasons for the Luso-Brazilian interest by Eça de Queiroz and his heritage.
