Abstract
This essay is intended as a contribution to the history of Kapa magazine, published monthly in Portugal between 1990 and 1993, and led by Miguel Esteves Cardoso.
It is suggested that throughout its 32 issues, Kapa was guided by an ethos that sought to forge a communicating community. For this reason, the magazine renounced to “information” in the traditional sense of the term, and opened itself to some strategies that can be associated with entertainment and fun; among them, it will be mentioned the use of photographic images, the appeal to nostalgia and irony, and the use of humour. It is believed that these aspects contributed to Kapa's success and were decisive in making it a cult magazine, as well as a symbol of a generation in the early 90's in Portugal.
