Abstract
Epistemological aspects about social media monitoring methods and techniques to observe television audience in Brazil. This article presents a reflection on the tools, metrics, and user-generated content by telenovela fans. Recent publications about social media monitoring tools seem to have a lack critical review and epistemological reflection on the use of methods that come from different scientific fields. The need to incorporate the epistemological level of procedures and technical instruments into internet studies is defended. By way of illustration, we analyze the application of software to analyze the content generated by communities of fans of three Brazilian telenovelas on social networks.
