Abstract
This reading of Herberto Helder’s A faca não corta o fogo takes into account
his previous works and some significative variations which have resulted in a fiftyyear-old journey of literary production. In this book, first published in 2008 and reprinted with some alterations in 2009, in Ofício cantante: poesia completa, the use of biographic elements becomes unexpectedly relevant, as well as several allusions to aspects of the contemporary society, represented by the themes of love, old age, death and art, beauty and passion.
