Abstract
Nuno Judice's narrative A Implosão is presented as a fictional work clearly inspired by the actual critical context of contemporary Portugal. However, within the intertextual dialogue it establishes, it is possible to read this narrative integrated into a critical worldview that dates back at least to the ideals of the influential Geração de 70 and the theme of Portuguese decadence. Without forgetting the intertextuality with some texts of Guerra Junqueiro or O Marinheiro [The Sailor] by Fernando Pessoa. At the same time, Nuno Judice's writing and the tradition with which it dialogues appear as cultural and literary self-images of a nation that suffers from hyper-identity.
