Abstract

This final research project aimed at comprehending how a specific international issue - the youngsters' tumults in the banlieues of Paris in late 2005 - were published by newspapers of reference, such as the Portuguese Público and the Italian La Repubblica, as well as in what sense could we associate the options taken to cultural factors - namely, (i) the historical bond between France and both Italy and Portugal thanks to the Italian and Portuguese emigrant communities long and well established in that country, and (ii) the growing amount of immigrants from regions such as North Africa both in Portugal and in Italy, which could had lead the populations of those two target countries to resonate with the issues that caused the tumults in question.
