Abstract

The novel Bambi. Eine Lebensgeschichte aus dem Walde (1923), by Felix Salten, is not just the fanciful story of a young deer which, from an early age, was instructed by its mother about the dangers and mysteries of the forest. It is mainly the story of its growth, in which the flow of time occupies a central position, as it defines the cycles of life and determines the inevitability of death. As time goes by, the little buck matures and early realizes that everything in life is transitory. In its hard struggle for survival, Bambi sees the human being as its main enemy, but it soon finds out that he is also fragile and mortal. These and other aspects – it is worth highlighting the representations of the forest and of the relationship among the beings that inhabit it – give this novel a timeless and universal character and justify the success that it still has worldwide.
