Abstract
This article studies the relationship that music establishes with the believer. By conducting 30 interviews with residents in the Council of Moimenta da Beira it was attempted to understand to what extent music helps to reach God. The findings show that music gives great support to religion, as it helps the individual, with more or less faith, to find their balance, either by means of contemplation, through recognizing the greatness and beauty of God, either by the community dimension, making celebrations more vivid and enjoyable, and in this context, it is also a functional tool that unifies and gives meaning to the individual and the community itself.
