Abstract
The article analyzes the new capital flows in the media industry in the context of post-2008 globalization and examines how the power of autocratic regimes, and their economic allies, is being used to influence the media systems in the west that are vulnerable to foreign capital. Departing from individual cases, the article offers a theoretical elaboration of the complexity of capital flows in the context of the new globalization and how this can be producing an adverse climate to the liberal model of the media in Western democracies.
