Abstract
I will start with theoretical questions about migrations, modernity, gender discrimination and Nepali international female migration. My main goal is to answer the following research question: how can we define a successful integration and evaluate it, while pondering experiences of discrimination operationalized and narrated by Nepali female migrants from the two generations interviewed? I operationalize the most relevant key concepts involved – such as the main forms of female migrant discrimination, the skills and abilities of Nepali migrants, and what I will consider as descriptors of a successful migrant integration. This is a qualitative investigation, combining participant observation, field diary and ethnographic method with semi-structured interviews (1h30m) to 20 1st generation Nepali female migrants and 10 2nd generation Nepali female migrants in Portugal. I describe, in detail, the results obtained and I conclude by discussing the novelty and future implications of my contributions.
