Abstract

This final chapter elaborates on the growing evidence supporting a public health approach to palliative care for older people. Moreover, it builds on and specifies some of the WHO recommendations, using the contributions of the different authors brought together in the book. First, a reflection on what and how palliative care can complement care for older people (and vice versa) is provided and the policy developments in palliative care for older people are summarized. This is followed by the formulation of specific recommendations for policy and decision makers at international and national level in the field of palliative care for older people. These recommendations can support policy and decision makers at manifold levels, being conceived as key drivers influencing change and development that can be identified and promoted at individual, group/team , organizational, regional/network, and national levels.
