Abstract

In this essay, it is shown that the concept of love in the television series The Vampire Diaries, created by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec (CW, 2009-2017), is not a sentimental but a moral one. Love is conceived as a virtue, with redemptive qualities, capable of turning around the individual history of a person (or vampire, as the case may be). The essay also tries to account for the attraction that the character of Damon Salvatore has for long exerted on the series' audience.
