Abstract

Family archives are important resources for research, such as the study of the archive itself; the study of the families and their archival practices; its role in the construction of family memory and in the structuring and consolidation of pre-modern Portuguese and European families. The analysis of the family’s informational production, preserved for centuries until today, allows us to detect documents produced by elements of the elites of Porto’s urban patriciate since the beginning of the 15th century — Carneiros, Valadares, Barretos, Delgados. Families related through marriage or relationships provided, in part, by the neighborhood regarding the place where they lived in the mid-16thcentury — Rua das Flores.
