Abstract
Over the last few years, technological advances in Neural Machine Translation have brought these systems closer to the promise of universal translatability, now amplified by successive releases of generative tools, like ChatGPT. These technologies will necessarily have an impact in terms of translation training and teaching, and language teaching. In this paper, two in-class exercises are used to analyze the challenges and opportunities created by MT and its impact in translation teaching, as well as the importance of MT literacy as a structural element in translator training.
