Abstract

This chapter aims at presenting the legal regime on climate change, having in mind that this topic necessarily presupposes a pivotal function of International Law, but also resorts to the European Union Law and domestic law. To that end, this chapter aims providing a brief overview on the science behind climate change, so that one can better explain some legal implications under the legal regime on climate change (namely, its fundamental principles, the duty of mitigation, the legal instruments for mitigation, the adaptation policies and the avenues for States’ international responsibility or liability). Finally, this chapter considers the interaction between climate change law and human rights law, on the one hand, and the Law of the Sea, on the other hand.
