Abstract
Biographical study of António da Conceição Neves Cardoso (1816-1879), a blacksmith from northern Portugal, an emigrant in Brazil, and a paradigm of the so-called “Brazilian returnee.” We highlight his period of residence in Rio de Janeiro and his activities in that city, where he was even “arrested for the theft of slaves” in 1854.
