Abstract

The expansion of the denunciation of political prisons in Portugal, during the Salazar and Caetano regime, through the contributions of the National Commission for Relief to Political Prisoners (CNSPP), has become a national and international problem. A rising collective consciousness and culture of the struggle for human rights were formed against the aftermath of the silences declared by the regime. This text considers the history of that social movement, which intersected with the battle for democracy in Portugal, whose performance was decisive for the social and political transformation of the country.
