Abstract
The St. Salvador of Ramalde Church’s nave has a coffered ceiling with forty-five paintings representing a cycle of pictures, executed by an artistic company. Overall, the ceiling was in a state of preservation considered unstable, with many pathologies not only in the structure, but also in the paintings and in the frames. Before the urgent intervention of conservation and restoration an important effort was made to focus the research in documentary sources and also in the history and architecture of the building. It was also performed a preliminary scientific study on ten coffered paintings in the choir area, using tests and analysis, in order to identify the materials and techniques used, to better apply the conservation methods.
