Abstract

This work aims at conserving and elaborating a scientific study of the works conceived by Candido Portinari for the Gustavo Capanema Palace, a building built at the beginning of the 20th century, in the period between 1937 and 1943. Specifically, in this article, we will focus on the fresco panel Pau Brazil one of the paintings of the panel set entitled Economic Cycles, the first ones to be painted. It was used X-ray Fluorescence analysis technique for the characterization of pigments and mortar that make up the work, whose results aim to determine which materials were used and what changes occurred by pollution, as parameters for the elaboration of guidelines for future conservative actions and as contributions to art history.
