Abstract

From the several dimensions present in the religious phaenomenon, the social or institutional one is far from being the defining element of the Roman cultus deorum: the ritual or experiential dimensions are also particularly evident in Roman religiosity. In the absence of sufficient elements to study how Augustus intimately lived his own religious experience, we can though carefully read all the references to religion made in his Res gestae with this particular concern in mind. This exercise is especially valid if we try to wholly understand the richness of the roman religious experience, that is far from having its main focus on matters of believe, but rather on orthopraxis.
