Abstract

Introduction: During nursing education, the way students experience clinical education influences their learning and care delivery. It is therefore relevant to know the experiences because it is through acquired experiences through practice and contact with the reality of care, that the student can develop skills as a future health professional. Objectives: To describe and categorize the experiences of nursing students in the context of clinical teaching in neonatal units. Materials and methods: This is an integrative literature review, with searched performed through the search engines B-on, EBSCO, PubMed and ScienceDirect. The following descriptors were used in the English language: Nursing Students, Undergraduate Nursing, Students Nursing, Pre-licensure Nurse, Neonate, Neonatal, Neonatal ICU, Premature, Preterm, Newborn, Infant, Experiences and Perceptions, which underwent several combinations for better bibliographic results. The research question, according to the PICo methodology, is What are the experiences of nursing students in neonatal units? From this research and the analysis of the articles, 5 studies were included. Results: Difficulty in providing care is the common conclusion found in most of the articles analyzed. There are also feelings of incompetence, inexperience, and fear during the provision of care due to the fragility and vulnerability of newborns. Conclusions: In general, nursing students experienced a wide range of emotions. The feelings experienced were characterized by anxiety caused by feelings of inexperience and fear due to inexperience in providing care to newborns.
