Abstract

The coal production process in Angola produces great damage to the environment and a large amount of waste. Given this situation, which results in an indifferent scenario, we propose to identify specific actions that can contribute to mitigate the environmental impacts in charcoal production projects in a sustainable way in the Huambo Province communities. The sawdust was obtained from a carpentry shop in the commune of Belém, in the municipality of Huambo, which is 16 km from Katenguenha. The different impacts that the charcoal production process has caused in that location were evaluated, from the geophysical and biological aspects directed by the loss of Fauna and Flora. As mitigation measures, some actions were taken that include training related to environmental areas, with emphasis on forest management, solid waste conditioning and constant exercise based on the policy of 3 Rs. One of the alternative sources adopted is limited to the use of briquettes which to a certain extent contribute to a better protection of the native forest.
