Abstract

Art-Based Research (ABR) and Art-Based Educational Research (ABER) are applicable to contemporary digital photography, as exemplified by the implementation of the a/r/tographic method in the project “Cidad’Art+”. This project employs a/r/tography as a tool to integrate creative processes within digital photography, alongside a/r/cography as a practical methodology, resulting in experimental post-photographic visual artifacts. It fosters the interplay between aesthetics, technique, and technology within the context of digital media art. The “Cidad’Art+” project utilizes generative digital photography to produce digitally manipulated images. These generative digital artifacts combine motifs from urban daily life with poetry and ambient sound. Through ABR and ABER, the project expands the boundaries of digital photography and contributes to artist education. The study demonstrates that these methodologies enhance understanding of the relationship between technology, art, and society, promoting innovation and critical reflection in generative digital photography. This approach serves as a pathway to advance artistic democratization in contemporary digital photography.
