Compositions made up of polysaccharides with anti-viral and anti-bacterial adhesion activity, their formulations, the process of making them and their uses

Research output: Patent

Abstract

The present invention relates to compositions containing one or preferably two polysaccharides with anti-viral and anti-bacterial adhesion activity, which are useful in the prophylaxis and/or treatment of viruses and bacterioses, when used in therapeutically effective quantities. Sulphated polysaccharides are natural compounds with low toxicity to mammals and high antiviral and anti-bacterial adhesion activity, ranging from 1 microgram/ml to 100 micrograms/ml. The unique feature of these compositions is the use of various polysaccharides of plant or other origin, including the polysaccharide of phorphyridium sp., with an incorporation of between 20 micrograms/ml and 100 micrograms/ml, which reduces antiviral activity by between 40-80% and bacterial adhesion by between 50-70%, depending on the synergies obtained by the different combinations between the different polysaccharides. These compositions, which are the subject of the present invention, can be used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food and feed industries.
