Abstract

The short biblical narrative in Gn 6:1-4, not particularly known, brings confusion to decontextualized interpretations. In this essay we analyse it within its proper historical, literary, cultural and religious context, covering all the primordial history of Gn 1-11. Literary analysis has not found difficulties when it interprets the passage considering its mythical background from the Ancient Near East – more recognizable in Greek Mythology – and concludes that the composition is embedded with that mythical language, using the same context of origins, the same themes, structures and analogous characters. It appears to be a small mythical fragment or a small origin myth of its own.
