Abstract

Multihoming is a typical behaviour of on-demand delivery workers. Such behaviour is discouraged by digital labour platforms, as it increases uncertainty in the management of their operations. Based on concepts like algorithmic control (AC), need satisfaction, and satisfaction with work, this study attempts to understand how such platforms can boost on-demand delivery workers loyalty. The empirical data from a survey with 210 on-demand delivery workers in Brazil revealed that AC is not necessarily negative for managing their behaviour as long as it offers working experiences that consistently favour the satisfaction of their needs for existence and autonomy.
