Abstract
Introduction: This article analyses the challenges facing education in this century, particularly regarding teaching and the school, the new roles that teachers are called upon to play, and their initial and continuing training, which has weakened due to constant change. Its objectives are to reflect on the need to change the aspects in question, aiming at improving the educational process. Methodology: For this purpose, a research methodology called bibliographic research was used. Results and discussions: the results point to the need for several changes that, as long as they are faced by all those involved with courage and a desire for change, can lead to the success of the educational process. Conclusions: The conclusions drawn are that, with a view to the educational process as a whole, education should be geared towards promoting skills and competences and rethinking new learning opportunities.
