Abstract
The use and convergence of communication research data collection methods and techniques for monitoring content generated by telenovela fans on social networks. The methodology adopted consists of a qualitative approach in an intentional sample of tools for monitoring on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. The results point to limitations in the use of each of the tools, namely: Research.ly, Tweetstats for Twitter search; Booshaka, and Scup for research on Facebook and YouTube, indicating that while qualitative research is privileged through the use of techniques such as ethnographic; monitoring tools favor the development of a quantitative approach that combined with the content analysis technique for classifying the material collected on the internet, it facilitates the interpretation by researchers.
