Abstract

The dentogingival unit (DGU) can be defined as the anatomical complex formed by the gingival membrane, gingival sulcus, junctional epithelium and connective tissue insertion, also known as the “biological space” [1]. It is considered of great importance, and its invasion may cause the collapse and apical migration of the fixation apparatus. Biological space is considered essential for the maintenance of gingival health, and the success of various dental procedures like restorations [2] and consequent periodontal health. There are numerous methods to measure the dimensions of the DGU but studies using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) are still very scarce.
