Educação para os direitos Humanos: uma perspetiva ética

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Considering ethics as the fundamental dimension of human action, it becomes evident from the outset that discussing the ethics of human rights entails addressing the ultimate foundation of their validity, thereby underpinning all actions pertaining to them. Simultaneously, since ethics is understood in this manner, it inevitably resides within the realm of duty, contemplating whether an action ought or ought not to be carried out. Thus, an ethics of human rights, apart from delving into the question of their ultimate foundation, always situates rights within their inevitable relationship with duty. It is from the intersection of these inquiries that I intend to embark on the development of this brief reflection, aiming to move towards a dimension that transcends the terrain of rights and duties by introducing the realm of gratuitousness in interhuman relations. It is in exploring the interplay between the dimension of rights/duties – concerning justice – and the dimension of gratuitousness that extends beyond any rights and duties that the possibility of education for human rights can be discussed.
