Abstract
Climate change has been identified as one of the greatest environmental, social, and economic threats facing the planet and humanity today. The Middle East is one of the regions most affected by climate change, with Jordan and Syria already facing serious problems related to available water resources and environmental quality. The EGREEN project (573927-EPP-1-2016-1-JO-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP) aims to ensure that universities in Jordan and Syria can deliver a high-quality education that is compatible with European standards in line with market needs of the emerging knowledge society, strengthening the environmental area using distance education. In addition, EGREEN intends to introduce the concept of climate change to train professional leaders who can meet the market needs of the country, as well as develop and integrate into the degree programs an appropriate laboratory component in environmental technologies at the universities of Jordan and Syria and aligned with the requirements of Bologna. The implementation of EGREEN contributes to a sustainable outcome that promoted curriculum reform in engineering education and left a long-term legacy for universities in Syria and Jordan. All project partners have extensive experience and a track record of success and active participation in TEMPUS projects that ensured that the consortium achieved the project's objectives.
