Abstract
This article presents the analysis of theoretical and practical implications in conservation and restoration of contemporary art, given the possibility and/or need to set limits on the role of the artists that restore their own artworks during their lifetime. In this sense, it will be necessary to understand some of the features, concepts and contexts of contemporary art, both social and cultural, to reach the artist not only as the central figure of creation, but also as a possible actor intervening directly in the restoration works. From the perspective of conservation and restoration, it is therefore crucial to analyze the limits of such action according to the demands and criteria, not only technical but essentially theoretical, of conservation and restoration of contemporary works.
