Ensino, reforma e inovação no governo de Passos Manuel

This paper focuses on the educational reforms and innovations implemented by the government formed by Passos Manuel. Education and instruction were relevant political issues in Portugal’s liberal era, made manifest by the ideological debate and the legislation laid down at a time when society moved towards “modernity” based on new cultural programs. As the objectives of these programs were academic and vocational training, the educational system was restructured, course organization was updated and pedagogical practices underwent reform while cultural wealth and social and economic development were fostered. These were the objectives of the government presided by Passos Manuel.
