Abstract
This study aims to characterize the creating and thinking styles in a sample of universitystudents, given the gender, course, year of attendance and institution. The sample consists of 234 students, 184 female and 50 male gender of Psychology (67.5%) and Media (32.5%), from different institutions (Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias-ULHT-35.9%, Universidade Católica-UC-32.5% and Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada-ISPA -31.6%). The scale of Creating and Thinking Styles, assesses the styles Non-Conforming/Transformer, Cautious/Reflexive and Logical/Objective. The results show, for the entire sample, higher rates for Non-Conforming/Transformer style raising the issue of social desirability inherent in this type of instrument. No differences were found in any of the styles, considering the variables gender or course. They are the first-year students and those who attend UC that stand out the highest levels of style Non-Conforming/Transformer, possibly being the educational policies of each institution responsible for these results. However, considering that the first-yearstudents are attending UC and students of the third are those who attend the ISPA, there is still the question of the role of schools in the eventual promotion of the more conformist way of thinking.
