Abstract

The article explores qualitative methodological strategies with applicability in conflict- and postconflict societies, focusing on perspectives from Ethiopia and Liberia. Both countries have undergone profound transformations following periods of violent conflict, offering valuable contexts for qualitative research. The article analyzes a plurality of techniques, including ethnographic research comprising the following fieldwork activities: semi-structured interviews, focus group interviewing, participatory research and participant observation. Consequently, the studies’ findings contributed to an understanding of the nuances of social dynamics, narratives, and the experiences of minority actors or those in more marginalized and/or vulnerable situations in post-conflict societies. The article offers valuable perspectives that can influence interventions for peacebuilding in Ethiopia and Liberia.
