Abstract

Static-computer aided implant surgery allows a prosthetically-driven implant placement, with better accuracy. Different types of guides and surgical techniques can be used to achieve better implant positioning. The aim of this research was to analyze the linear and angular deviations of dental implants placed in patients of a university dental clinic. Forty-one implants were evaluated. Tooth-supported guides or muco-supported guides with fixation pins were used. Two types of guided surgery were performed to place the implants: pilot guided or fully guided. 3D data from the implant planning was superimposed with 3D data from final implant position, by using the tool “Treatment Evaluation” of an implant planning software—CoDiagnostix®, allowing to automatically calculate the deviations of the implants placed. The mean angular deviation was 5.04°. The mean 3D deviation at the implants most coronal point was 1.11 mm and at implants apex was 1.74 mm. A digital workflow is a feasible treatment option in order to perform guided surgery. However, deviations do occur and the most affected area is the apical region of the implant.
