Abstract
We take as a starting point the distinction between two models of political theology that marked the history of Christianity: one of "ideological" tendency and another of "utopian" tendency. The theoretical basis for this distinction can be found in the way in which Paul Ricoeur connects the concepts of ideology and utopia. In this way, the ideological model would highlight the specific historical-political realities, to the extreme of the immanent suppression of theology; the utopian model would highlight the eschatoligical dimension of Christianity and its political effect, to the extreme point of the absolute impossibility of historic accomplishment. The phenomenon of Fatima has also developed in the scope of this tension. If its historical contextualisation and the several political "uses" seem to allow an interpretation in terms of ideological political theology, the theological analysis of the message suggests a more eschatological perception, in the sense of the utopian political theology but embolied, mainly around the challenge of peace.
