Abstract

Flow injection (FIA) systems for the determination (in the soluble and available form) of sodium and potassium by flame emission spectrometry, and calcium and magnesium by atomic absorption spectrometry in soils were developed. The necessary dilution, which in some cases could be as large as about 300 fold, was accomplished by including a stream splitting and a dialysis unit in the FIA manifolds. Good agreement was obtained between the results provided by the developed methodologies and by the reference procedures. Sampling rates from 60 to 150 samples per hour were achieved with relative standard deviations below 4%.
