Abstract

Research on career psychology in Portugal has increased the attention of many investigators and professionals over the last 40 years, in part as a result of numerous socioeconomic challenges that the society brings to this domain of knowledge. This study aims at analysing the state of art of Portuguese research on career psychology, through the update of a genogram. Doctoral dissertations completed until May 2016 were revised, thus favouring a schematic representation andqualitative and quantitative analysis of theoretical constructs, nature and origin of populations, and methodologies. Results indicated that doctoral dissertations covering research topics directly related tocareer have been systematically produced. However, variations in the number of doctoral dissertationsconcluded per year, educational institution, domain of knowledge, and in relation to the constructs, populations and methodologies have been recorded. This paper may stimulate the reflection of careerresearchers about the Portuguese state of art on career psychology, and contribute to its dissemination inand recognition by the scientific community.
