Abstract
This research aims to analyze how gender representations are being conveyed through imagens in textbooks for the fourth year of elementary school addressed to countryside schools and city schools. The research is based on the studies of Moscovici (2012) about the communication of social representations and on the work of Scott (1994, 1995) and Louro (1997, 2007) on gender. The methodology used was the content analysis (BARDIN, 1977, BAUER; GASKELL, 2002). The images were classified in categories according to posture, gestures and work activities, and compared in terms of types of textbooks. The analysis of the imagens showed the propagation of gender stereotypes as well as some visual, postural e gestural strategies to show gender representation.
