Abstract

Henri-Irenée Marrou (1904-1977) was a historian who along with historical research developed a theological thinking about History itself, with great Augustinian influence. Theological reflection on History is present especially in Theology of History, where elements appear to reflect the theme of predestination. In the present article, this work is framed in the theological context in which it is developed (1st part); next, it is illustrated what Marrou refers on the subject of the predestination (2nd part); finally, lay the foundations for a theology of freedom, in the historical construction under the sign of belonging and Christian living (3rd part).
