A micro/nanocomposite comprising: a hydrogel matrix comprising a cross-linked polysaccharide; a nanofiller with micro- or nano size dispersed within the hydrogel matrix; and a plasticizer (e.g., from about 1 to 30% (v/v) of the plasticizer) associated with the hydrogel matrix.
