Abstract

The development of national and international collaborative and multicentred research projects is becoming a major and relevant feature, namely in the field of palliative care. Hence, the aim of this study is to describe the state of the development of this type of research in Portugal, pointing out possible strategies to promote and improve such collaborative projects. All coordinators of masters and post-graduation courses in palliative care and all coordinators of Portuguese specialised palliative care teams were requested to fill in a questionnaire where they were asked on their experience in conducting collaborative research projects. Out of a total of 25 participants, 15 never participated in such studies. Nonetheless, almost all participants were unanimous in stating that they consider these projects relevant, expressing their willingness in participating in initiatives of this kind. As possible strategies to promote collaborative research in Portugal, the participants indicated networking, research seminars and the establishment of bilateral research consortiums.
