IRENE: diferentes vozes de uma comunidade relato de experiência

Developed in 2010 by media Core Santa Marta, which it was acted as coordinator, the short film “IRENE” was conceived in a pedagogical perspective designed by Education Institute in partnership with the Futura – Fundação Roberto Marinho. The intervention took place from January to October 2010 and involved young people in the community Santa Marta in Rio de Janeiro. The aiming is to analyse the use of mass media as educational devices and mediators of knowledge in a media education perspective, this study sought to understand in which way the youngsters built their identity in the community space and how they perceived their identity in the face of an interactive universe and dialogic extremely fast, as the current society we live in. Based on text by Ítalo Calvino, “Cities and the Name”, the project allowed for reflection on social aspects involving the community life and fostered the production of the short film IRENE. The use of video as a device capable of contributing to the development of a critical and reflective thinking about the daily life of a community life was investigated through workshops that explored audio-visual language and the mechanisms of production, empowering young people to build a community identity. This work made it possible to understand that the use of the mass media constitute themselves as powerful artefacts for the construction of meanings, when guided by a pedagogical practice that goes beyond the instrumental use of the media and see it as reflection thrusters, production devices and social intervention.
