Abstract
Once Utopia was completed, More sent it to Antwerp for Peter Giles to read, and to indicate any faults he might detect. More's reference to possible errors in his reporting of Raphaël's narration has been interpreted as one detail, among others, destined to create the impression that the island really existed. The authors consider one such detail, the bridge over the river Anydrus at Amaurotum, an enigma. They explore the significance of this enigma as a key to Utopia's affabulation.
