Abstract

This paper presents the effort of the science developed by the Jesuits during the Baroque period in face of the challenges posed by the entry of the new atomist texts and the renewed mathematical and empirical impulse when studying nature. To this end, the Society of Jesus promoted a network of schools, among them the Imperial School of Madrid, in which a renewed curriculum and the exchange of teachers from different regions stood out. With these tools they will try to face a new interpretation of Aristotelian physics. Among the topics, the problem of the void is presented as a paradigmatic case and the solution by Francisco de Oviedo, as an example of this context of creation of thought that will lead to the scientific revolution of the Modern Age.
